Large house, now boarding house to Ackworth School Later C18, enlarged in later C19. Sandstone (north front rendered) and coursed squared sandstone; slate roof. Double pile plan. North front of 3 storeys and 5 bays, in Classical style; symmetrical; pedimented 3-bay centre has central doorway with panelled door, architrave of Tuscan semi-columns with triglyph frieze and segmental pediment and narrow side windows; a small window to the right, and a 2-light sashed window on each side; outer bays have sashes without glazing bars; 1st floor has 12-pane sashes linked by a sill-band, and that in the centre has an architrave with cornice; 2nd floor has low 6-pane sashes; the pediment contains raised decoration consisting of a floral medallion beneath a swag, and has an urn on the apex. Low-pitched hipped roof with 2 ridge chimney stacks. The added rear range, of 2 storeys,with symmetrical south front, has an open-pedimented centre flanked by full-height canted bays; a broad lst-floor band carried round the whole; the centre has a large tripartite sashed window at ground floor, and at 1st floor a tall Venetian- style window with balustrade, the flanking bays each have three 12- pane sashes on each floor, with raised sills, and hipped roofs.
